You get the fee before we start.

The first 15-minute call is complimentary. After that, each step is priced on its own, and you get the fee before any work starts.

How it works

  • Screening call

Fifteen minutes to tell us what is happening. We check for conflicts, then tell you whether we can help and what comes next.

    Complimentary

  • A fee for each step

A notice, an application and a hearing are each priced on its own, so you pay only for the steps your matter needs. Set retainers are available for the whole matter.

    Quoted up front

  • Full consultation

Forty-five minutes to go through your situation, your documents and the dates in detail. HST included.

    $150

What is priced on its own

  • Notice drafted and served

One notice, prepared, checked and served on the tenant.

  • Board application

Application filed with the Board, with evidence collected and submitted.

  • Hearing representation

Preparation and representation at the Board or Divisional Court.

  • Review or appeal

A request to review a Board order, or an appeal to the Divisional Court.

  • Enforcing an order

Filing the order with the Court Enforcement Office and following it through.

  • Agreement to end the tenancy

An agreement with your tenant prepared, checked and signed correctly.

  • Court proceeding

An appeal, motion, application or claim in the Divisional Court or the Superior Court of Justice.

No two matters are alike, so we price yours once we know the facts. You will know the fee before any work starts.

Why there is no price list

Every tenancy is different. How many tenants there are, how much is owed, whether the tenant disputes it and whether there is a hearing all change the work a matter needs. A fixed price list could not reflect that. So we price your matter once we know the facts, and you will know the fee before any work starts. Most matters start with the complimentary 15-minute call.

Paying for the step you need

  • One step at a time. A notice, an application and a hearing are each priced on their own, so you pay only for the steps your matter needs. You decide at each stage whether to go on.
  • The whole matter. When we take a matter from start to finish, we can agree a set retainer that covers the steps we expect.

Board filing fees

The Landlord and Tenant Board charges its own fee to file an application. It is separate from our fee and is paid to the Board. For example, the fee for an L1 or L2 application is $201, or $186 when filed through the Tribunals Ontario Portal. The Board can change its fees, so we confirm the current amount when we file. If an eviction order has to be enforced, the Court Enforcement Office (the Sheriff) also charges its own fee to carry it out.

Paying

We do not take payment through this website. We confirm the fee and how to pay it with you directly before any work starts. The $150 consultation fee includes HST.

Questions about fees

How are your fees set?

Individual services, such as a notice, an application or a hearing, are priced separately. Set retainers are available for full matters. You are told the fee before any work starts.

Why don't you list your prices?

Because every matter is different. How many tenants there are, how much is owed, whether the tenant disputes it and whether there is a hearing all change the work involved. So each step is quoted once we know your facts, and you get the fee before any work starts. The first 15-minute call is complimentary.

What does the complimentary screening call cover?

It is a 15-minute call to hear what is happening, check that we can act for you and tell you which steps your matter involves. It does not make us your lawyer, and it is not legal advice on your situation. If you want to go through your documents and dates in detail, book the 45-minute full consultation, which costs $150.
